Abstract

This work is based on the interest to perform a detailed study of the anatomy of carotids as of the basic blood vessels of the brain, caused by the aspiration to rethink already existing methods of treatment, to look on the problem of the present pathology considering modern technology and to attempt to define new treatment methods. The ambiguity of the location of the carotids, in particular the plural possible variants of anatomy of the extra cranial part of the ICA which has a highly restricted access for surgical intervention defines a heightened interest to research the topographic aspects of the variability of the intracranial part of the ICA as of the major vessel of the brain. Methods. The research has been performed on 160 preparations taken from 80 cadavers. After thorough acute dissection of the area of the cervical neurovascular bunch, the matter of our research was the GCA level of the bifurcation relative to the external cranial surface on the right and left. The measurement of the ICA length and its' variability has been carried out by simulating movements of the head in different directions by turning the head accordingly. Results 1. The level at which the internal carotid artery departs from the GCA tends to change as the person ages; 2. The GCA bifurcation level on the right and left, in most cases, at the same subject is settled down asymmetrically. Thus lower arrangement is observed on the right; 3. The length of the extracranial part of ICA to change as the person ages; 4. People who are older than 56 years have an ICA which is less elastic in its length, than people in the age of 35-55 years, this rigidity can lead to deformation.
